Fabric of a nation

A variety of embroidery works, Thai fabrics and royal costumes are showcased during “The Glorious Beauty of Textiles, Her Majesty the Queen’s 84th Birthday Celebration” exhibition, on display at Central Chidlom until Aug 17 and at Central Embassy until Aug 21.

Held in collaboration with the Support Foundation and Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles to celebrate HM the Queen’s 84th birthday, the exhibition is divided into eight zones across the Event Hall, on the third floor of Central Chidlom.

On display are khon costumes and fine embroidery works; prototypes of embroidery works by villagers in the South; related tools and pictures showing their embroidery process; embroidered fabrics from six hilltribes and satchels that represent each tribe’s uniqueness; as well as seven royal costumes adorned with the high art of fine embroidery that Her Majesty the Queen wore during her royal visits in Thailand and overseas.

Meanwhile, a collection of 17 costumes made from Thai fabrics with matching embroidery is on display on the ground floor of Central Embassy. They were created by legendary designers from the Thai fashion industry — Tirapan Wannarat, Pichitra Boonyarathaphan and Nakorn Samphantharak — as well as seven leading Thai designers from brands such as Anchavika, Asava, Calista, Kemissara, Kloset, Patinya and Vickteerut.

All of the costumes will be available for purchase after the exhibition to raise funds for The Support Foundation.

There are also sales of a variety of products from The Support Foundation, the Model Farm Projects and the Royal Highland Agricultural Development Station at The Balcony on the second floor.
