Dresses for a queen

Two rarely-seen Thai national costumes from HM the Queen's wardrobe will take centrestage during the "84th Birthday — The Great Queen of Thailand" exhibition at Paradise Park's Royal Park Plaza, Srinakarin Road, from tomorrow to Sunday.

This is a rare chance to view the Thai Chakkraphat dress, a formal and conservative traditional dress with a shawl named after Chakrapat Phiman Hall; and Thai Siwalai dress, a formal evening wear named after Phra Thinang Siwalai Maha Prasat, often worn for royal ceremonies or formal functions.

The two dresses were made from Thai silk woven by villagers from Her Majesty's personal projects. They are on loan from the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles.

Also displayed will be a collection of 10 dresses made from Thai fabric. They are redesigned by leading designers who take inspirations from the formal Thai national costumes. They are founders of such brands as Chai Jiam-amornrat, Gina, Tipayaphong Poosanaphong, Real, Wisharawish and Munchu's.

Available for sale will be quality products from Queen Sirikit Museum of Textile, Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation, Doi Kham, Doi Tung, Sai Jai Thai Foundation and Phufa Shops.
