Textiles from Asean countries on display

Exquisite textiles made by accomplished designers from 10 Asean countries will be showcased during the “Asean Selections 2016” exhibition at Museum Siam on Sanam Chai Road from Aug 15-21 from 10am to 6pm.

Held for the first time under the theme “Innovative Craft of Textiles in Asean: Ethnic Accents” by the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (Sacict), the week-long exhibition will inspire a new generation of textile designers with 25 innovative creations from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand. The exhibition will open with a special talk where Japanese textile artist Michiko Uehara and all 10 textile designers whose works are selected to join the exhibition will share their inspiration, concepts, techniques and innovation.

This is a rare chance to learn directly from Michiko whose superb silk reeling technique has earned her a Guinness World Records title for the world’s lightest textile. The talk will be held on Aug 15 from 10am to noon. There is no admission fee but seats are limited.
