Fifteen Thai students and their peers from six countries will be competing in the final round of IDC RoBoCon 2016 on the 1st floor of Pantip Plaza, Pratunam, this Saturday from 9am-5pm.

Organised by the National Metal and Materials Technology Center and the Ministry of Science and Technology, the 27th edition of the international robot design competition will see 50 university students from Japan, China, South Korea, Egypt, Singapore, Morocco and Thailand showcasing their talents in the technologies of robotics and automation.

This is the second time Thailand has played host to the competition, and this year’s theme is “Robot Caregiver”, seeking solutions to cope with the world’s ageing population and their medicine management.

The 50 competitors will be divided into 10 teams, each comprised of five members from different countries. They have 10 days to work as a team to build two robots — one with an ability to pick up the right pills from the medicine shelves, and the other to correctly drop them in the corresponding pillboxes. Each team has two minutes, and the team whose robots can complete the mission in the shortest time will be the winner. Medals and certificates will be awarded.

The final round of the competition is open for public viewing free of charge.
