German pianists to make Bangkok debut

German pianists Andreas Grau and Gotz Schumacher will give a Bangkok debut performance at Goethe Institut, Sathon 1, on Thursday at 7.30pm.

Held to mark the re-opening of the institute's auditorium which had been closed for renovation for six months, the "GrauSchumacher Piano Duo" is an evening of great musical mastery with works by Schubert, Mozart, Busomi, Haydn and Brahms.

Grau and Schumacher have been performing together since their youth. On stage, they appear to communicate telepathically, making the two grand pianos and four hands merge into one single body of sound.

The two musicians have made a name for themselves as one of the best recognised piano duos worldwide. Their repertoire ranges from Bach to Poulenc and Liszt.

Several important contemporary composers, including Peter Eotvos, Philippe Manoury and Jan Muller-Wieland, have been inspired by the virtuoso performances of the duo and have written concerts for them.

There is no admission fee but pre-registration is required. Email programm@bangkok.goethe.org or call 02-108-8232.
