Angry men take centrestage

Culture Collective Studio, an English-speaking theatre in Bangkok, is staging Twelve Angry Men at Chatrium Residence Riverside, Charoen Krung 70, from Oct 20-30 (except Mon-Wed). Showtime is 7pm on Thursdays, 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 4pm on Sundays.

Based on the intense courtroom drama of the same title written by Reginald Rose, the new production will be directed by Loni Berry with a multicultural cast of 12 men playing 12 members of the jury.

They are locked in a room and deliberate the guilt or innocence of a young boy accused of murdering his father. As they struggle to reach a unanimous decision, the psychological motivations of each man are revealed.

The play was first produced for television in 1954 and the 1957 film gained critical acclaim and is now considered a classic. The Bangkok version is set in present day New York City to reflect the current political and racial conflicts in the US.

The cast includes Jason Archilla from Puerto Rico; Phil Blaze from Switzerland; Mikhail Boldyrev from Russia; Pope Bustos from Argentina; Ross James Cain from England; Sumit Gautam from Nepal; Vineet Kumar from India; Samuele Zanni from Italy; Vega and Ben Weldon from the US; and Peace Pitchayut, Nawin Smith and Alok Tiwari from Thailand.

Tickets cost 800 baht (500 baht for Thursday shows). Visit www.culture-collective.com or call 089-876-5400.
