His Majesty's natural bounties

HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s irrigation talents will be showcased during an exhibition at the Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Chiang Mai, Nov 7-8, 8.30am-6.30pm.

The exhibition features HM’s water management initiatives for upstream, midstream and downstream areas, presented through the royal addresses he gave over the past three decades.

Visitors will learn more about artificial rain-making (or Royal Rain), forestation using irrigation water, how check dams can help preserve soil and water, the importance of planting vetiver grass around water-source areas, dams (water retention), weirs (diversion dams), a network of reservoirs, monkey cheek (ponds which serve as rainwater storage) and wastewater treatment by natural methods.

The exhibition is part of the second World Irrigation Forum and the 67th International Executive Council Meeting, which will take place at the same venue Nov 6-12.

Held under the theme Water Management In Changing World: Role Of Irrigation For Sustainable Food Production”, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the event will address water-related problems and food security. It will be attended by more than 1,200 ministers, high-level officials, ambassadors, educational-institute executives, and water management and irrigation academics from 60 countries.

There is no admission fee to the exhibition.
