Love that cannot be suppressed

Photographer Ram Kanjanavanit reflects an strange, intense vision of love through a combination of painting and photography during the "Burning Love" exhibition at Kathmandu Photo Gallery from Nov 12 to Dec 28.

His romantic anti-romantic series is seared with a great yearning to break free of designer romance and the lifestyle choices that implies. As a former wedding photographer, he blends painting and photography techniques to create another dimension of mystery and horror.

The pictures appear to bleed with colour, as if to show that instincts long suppressed by the artificial sweetness and perfect bliss of the world’s romantic conventions will bleed through as from an unstoppable wound.

This is Ram's first solo show since graduating from the International Center of Photography, New York, last year. The 28-year-old has also covered three seasons of New York Fashion Week for Harper’s Bazaar Thailand.

The opening will be on Nov 12 at 6.30pm. Kathmandu Photo Gallery is on Pan Road (near Indian temple of Silom Road) and is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11am-6pm.

Call 02-234-6700.
