Official description

There will be a prayer ceremony hosted by Siam Paragon on New Year's Eve at Parc Paragon, M floor, Rama I. This is the first time the shopping mall will organise a prayer event to mark the year gone and bring in the new, starting at 10.30pm. Ritual prayers will also be delivered in four dialects — Northern Thai, Central Thai, Isan and Southern Thai — by four monks at 12.15am.

The blessing activity is part of the "Siam Paragon To Pray For New Year's Eve 2017, on Thai and Buddhist Ways", which will also have rarely-seen traditional performances by famous artists on four evenings starting at 5pm until Sunday.

Together in prayer

Presented with the support by the Department of Cultural Promotion, the Department of Fine Arts, Bunditpatanasilpa Institute and the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, the event will open today with a performance of contemporary classical music by Silpathorn Award artist Chaiyuth Tosa-nga; followed by a khon masked dance featuring Rama Stops The Battle In The Buddhist Way Of Siam, an adaptation of The Battle (Yok Rob) episode of the epic Ramakien; and a folk performance from the four regions.

Other highlights include a grand shadow play or nang yai by a youth group from Wat Khanon of Ratchaburi province and a shadow puppet show by Kid Buak Sib Team tomorrow and a performance of King Rama IX's royal compositions by singers from The Voice, The Voice Kids and Suanplu Chorus on Saturday. There will be an alms-giving ceremony on Sunday at 7am. The four-day event will conclude on Sunday evening with a concert of King Rama IX's compositions performed by a music group from Mahidol University's College of Music, The Voice Kids and Keng Thachaya.

There is no admission fee. Call 02-610-8000.
