Learn stage acting from Japanese master Oriza Hirata

Oriza Hirata, one of the most influential playwrights and theatre directors in Japan, will be conducting a workshop and talk at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan intersection, on Jan 7 from 2-5.30pm.

Presented by the Japan Foundation, in collaboration with Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Arts' Department of Dramatic Arts, the event is a prelude to a new production of Bangkok Notes, which will be staged next November to commemorate the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan.

The production will be based on Hirata's award-winning play Tokyo Notes, which depicts the gradual dissolution of family and human relations in modern society. It is highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad and is translated in more than seven languages and performed in at least nine countries, including Bangkok in 2006.

Before starting an exciting audition for casting, which is planned for March next year, Hirata is giving a theatre workshop and talk to introduce his directing method, as well as the reasons why he would like to create Bangkok Notes at this juncture.

This is another great opportunity for Thai professional and emerging actors/actresses as well as those interested in stage acting to join the workshop as participants (limited to 10) or observers (open to 100).

The workshop will be conducted in Japanese with Thai translation.

There is no admission fee. Email acdstaff@jfbkk.or.th or call 02-260-8560—4.
