Anne Frank opera comes to Bangkok

The Thai premiere production of Grigori Frid’s The Diary Of Anne Frank Op 60 [1969] will be staged at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan intersection, tomorrow and Friday at 7pm.

Presented by Opera Siam International and Siam Philharmonic Orchestra, in collaboration with the embassies of Israel and Germany, the monodramatic opera in four scenes and 21 episodes is based on the original diary of Anne Frank.

The one-hour opera tells the story of the 13-year-old Anne Frank, who, during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, hid with her family in the back of a house in Amsterdam from July 1942 until her arrest in August 1944.

Her diary entries from this time show the emotional pressure borne by the child, but also that her moral power and unbending will to live cannot be broken.

The performance is directed by Grigori Frid, with Kaleigh Rae Gamache once again performing as Anne Frank in this English version by James Briscoe and Alla Abramovich-Gomon. Trisdee na Patalung will be conducting the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra for the show.

There is no admission fee but a minimum donation of 500 baht per person is requested at the door. Seats are limited to 200 audience members.
