The timeless concept of death

The Department of Dramatic Arts at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is staging Many Lives in Thai, an adaptation of MR Kukrit Pramoj's classic novel of the same title, at Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts from tomorrow to Feb 5. The show time is 7pm daily, plus a 1pm matinee on Saturday and Sunday.

Promised to be a unique experience for all audience members, the play follows the lives of 11 people who come from different backgrounds and social statuses, only to have their lives cut short at the same time when a terrible storm strikes their service boat.

MR Kukrit was inspired to write his novel after seeing a car collision that caused strangers to lose their lives at the same time. This stage play version aims to grasp the timeless concept of death, by showing us the lives of each of these people before their untimely demise.

Unlike plays with a typical front-to-back stage structure, Many Lives will be presented arena-style, where the audience will surround the entire stage. A total of 38 actors will take centrestage, all of whom will combine to play more than 100 character roles.

Tickets cost 600 baht (300 baht for students). Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts is in Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Bldg, Chulalongkorn University, Phaya Thai Road.
