The "KonRak Mime Festival" will be back with five silent shows that will leave the audience speechless at Thailand Cultural Centre's Small Hall, Ratchadaphisek Road, from Friday to Sunday. Showtime is 7pm daily, plus a 2pm show on Saturday and Sunday.

Held to mark the 130th anniversary of Thai-Japanese diplomatic relations, the second edition of the mime festival will bring five celebrated pantomime artists from Japan, Germany, Italy and Thailand. They will share the stage, presenting their own solo mime performances.

This is the first time Matteo Cionini from Italy will perform a three-act show in Bangkok featuring My Special Party, Mario Netta and Eine Kleine Mime Musik.

Taro Sladek, son of the famous multi-talented Milan Sladek from Germany who performed in previous festival last year, will also make a Bangkok debut with a four-part solo performance covering IKarus, Fox And The City, The Circle and My Favourite Ballet. Japan's mime master Kita Kyoichi will return with his corporeal mime in five parts, bringing along Sister Hiromi to present a powerful yet subtle performance to the Thai audience for the first time. From Thailand, Wasu Wanrayangkoon will touch on the future, past and present through the character of a table-tennis-player wannabe.

A total of five performances will be staged, each of which lasts 90 minutes. Performing in the evening shows on all three days will be Sister Hiromi, Taro and Wasu. The afternoon shows on Saturday and Sunday will feature Matteo and Kita.

Tickets cost 600 baht (300 baht for students) and are available from Happening Shop at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (call 02-214-3040), Nong Thaprachan (call 02-221-4421) and Syrup the Space (call 061-656-1924). Half of the proceeds will go to the Mime for Deaf Children Project.
