Official description

Ein Heldenleben, a large-scale work composed by Richard Strauss, will be the highlighted piece in the next concert of the same title by Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.

The German composer was a superstar of his craft by his 35th birthday, having produced several superbly scored symphonic poems invested with sumptuous tunes, lush harmonies and colourful orchestrations. In the last year of the 19th century, 1899, he wrote the last of his famous poems, the controversial Ein Heldenleben.

Translated as "A Hero's Life", the autobiographical piece tells a story in five movements — musical portraits of the hero, his companion and his adversaries, and the depiction of a battle and the hero's retirement committed to working for peace.
