Top cops face probe over Sek party pics

An inquiry panel has been set up to consider disciplinary action against two senior policemen in Nakhon Si Thammarat who were seen in a picture attending a party with controversial rock singer Sek Loso, according to the Royal Thai Police (RTP).

The probe was ordered by the Regional Police 8 Bureau after a fact-finding inquiry indicated improper conduct on the part of the two officers, said Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, the RTP's deputy spokesman.

The officers in question are Pol Col Rangsan Sukkua, chief investigator at Nakhon Si Thammarat police office, and Pol Lt Col Theerachai Pumpichai, crime suppression chief at Muang police station.

Both were moved to the Nakhon Si Thammarat police operations centre pending the result of the investigation after they were seen in photos attending a party hosted by Sek, whose real name is Seksan Sookpimay, in the southern province.

The photos drew heavy criticism as they were taken after Sek, who had been arrested in Bangkok and handed over to police in Nakhon Si Thammarat, was granted bail by the Nakhon Si Thammarat Court.

The singer was arrested over a Dec 29 incident in which he fired 10 gunshots in front of a statue of King Taksin to honour the king at Wat Khao Khun Phanom in Phrommakhiri district after a concert.

The Nakhon Si Thammarat Court later approved a warrant for his arrest on charges of carrying a gun in public illegally and firing a firearm in a public area.

Sek was arrested at his home in Bang Khen, Bangkok, and sent to the southern province to answer the charges.

However, the Kannayao chief, Pol Col Sing Singhadej, was transferred pending a probe after he was seen in a photo with the rock singer in an investigation room after the singer's arrest.

Pol Col Kritsana said yesterday the fact-finding inquiry into Pol Col Sing's conduct is expected to be wrapped up soon and he will face disciplinary action if he is found to have acted improperly.

The RTP's deputy spokesman yesterday advised Sek to refrain from commenting on social media to avoid possible charges related to violations of the computer law.

The singer is scheduled to report to Kannayao police on Friday to acknowledge a charge of drug use after a urine sample tested positive.
