CHON BURI: A lone thief snatched a gold necklace worth about 185,000 baht from the neck of Chinese swimming instructor eating at a street food stall at Pattaya beach early on Monday.

Police were called to the entrance of Roi Lang housing estate on Saithaiudom Tadphotisan Road in tambon Kua of Bang Lamung district about 2am.

There they found a Chinese man, identified as Jin Shuai, 33, at a street food stall with a bruise on his neck.

Mr Jin, who said he is a swimming instructor, told police he was about to pay the food vendor when a man wearing a full face crash helmet pulled up on a motorcycle, snatched his 9-baht weight gold necklace from around his neck and swiftly fled.

Police searched the area but there was no sign of the thief. They were pulling footage from surveillance cameras along the route the thief used, hoping to track him down.
