Customs officials have arrested three people -- one Thai and two Hong Kong Chinese nationals -- after seizing 28 kilogrammes of heroin destined for Hong Kong at the Klong Toey Port, Customs Department director-general Kulit Sombatsiri said at a press conference on Sunday.

Mr Kulit said 80 bars of heroin, weighing 350 grammes each and worth 100 million baht in total, were found during an x-ray scanning of a container of Y&S Solution Trading Co at the Klong Toey Port's customs office on Saturday.

The company declared the cargoes in the container, destined for Hong Kong, as rubber pillows. After a thorough examination of the pillows, customs officials found two bars of heroin hidden in each of them.

Three people -- one Thai and two Hong Kong Chinese nationals representing Y&S -- were arrested for violating the Narcotics Act and Customs Act. Mr Kulit did not identify the three, who were handed over to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for legal proceedings.

The company was registered on Jan 30, 2018. It had made two shipments of rubber pillows to Hong Kong twice in March. However, a re-examination of the x-ray scans of the containers revealed no illegal items, said Mr Kulit.
