CHON BURI: Seventy-two people, 17 of them under 20 years of age, were arrested in a raid on a pub in tambon Thung Kruat in Bang Lamung district early Sunday after testing positive for drugs.

The raid on "I Am" pub in the Laem Chabang area took place at about 4am. It was led by Pol Col Pattana Preechanon, the Chon Buri police chief investigator, Naris Niramaiwong, the Bang Lamung district chief, and Ruangyos Ratana-uradin, director of the Region 5 Office of the Narcotics Control Board.

Pol Col Pattana said the action was taken in responding to information that the pub had stayed open beyond legal opening hours and was being patronised by drug users.

A large number of people were found inside the pub.  Seventy-two of them - 51 men and 21 women - tested positive for drugs, he said. Seventeen of them - 11 males and six females - were under 20 years of age.

About 30 sachets of various kinds of drugs were recovered in the raid.

The 72 customers, along with Issares Sisan, 24, the pub manager, were detained for further legal action.
