SAMUT PRAKAN: A man who was chased by three cars and shot repeatedly in Muang district early Thursday morning was earlier wanted under an arrest warrant for attempted murder.

Pol Col Torpong Tantrawanit, chief of the Muang Samut Prakan police station, on Friday identified the seriously injured man as Tewan Pimchan, 27. The native of Surin province was suspected of colluding in attempted murder with a gun.

The man, whose arrest warrant was issued on May 24, had been at large until he was shot and later hospitalised Thursday.

Before the shooting, three cars chased the man who was riding his motorcycle on Srinakarin Road in Samut Prakan. One of the cars hit him under the elevated Southern Ring Road at about 2.30am Thursday. About four men from the cars pulled him to a roadside where he was shot four times in the abdomen.

He was then brought on a car to nearby Soi Sridan 3 where he managed to flee and sought help from local residents.

Mr Tewan survived but was still recuperating in a guarded room at Samut Prakan Hospital.

Pol Col Torpong quoted him as saying that one of the attackers was a man known as Big Bang Phli, after the name of a district of Samut Prakan. They had disputes and police attributed Thursday's shooting to a conflict of illicit business.

Police already identified all suspects in the case and were looking for them.
