The Bangkok South Criminal Court has released Wan Yubamrung on bail of 300,000 baht after police sought to extend his detention for an alleged assault at a pub in April.

The court did not set any special condition for the temporary release and ordered Mr Wan to report to the court on Sept 10 after the fourth detention period.

Police brought Mr Wan to the court to extend his detention on Tuesday.

Mr Wan spent Monday night in a cell at the Crime Suppression Division after surrendering and acknowledging charges of colluding in coercion and physical assault. Earlier he was wanted under an arrest warrant.

At the court, Mr Wan told reporters briefly that he loved his son and had to do a father's duty.

Mr Wan, the 44-year-old son of veteran politician Chalerm Yubamrung, beat Panuwat Punnarattanakul outside Demo Pub in Soi Thong Lor on the night of April 23. It was reported that Mr Panuwat had quarrelled with Mr Wan's son in Singapore earlier.
