A robber threatened a bank teller with a gun and made off with 184,000 baht in cash in Bangkok's Bung Kum district on Thursday.

The holdup occurred about 5pm at the Krungthai Bank branch at the MaxValu supermarket on Nawamin Road.

Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Charnthep Saesawet said the robber walked up to counter 3 with a pistol in his hand, climbed over it and began looking for money, but found nothing. He then turned to a woman teller and threatened her with the gun, demanding she give him money.

Frightened, the teller took about 184,000 baht in cash from a drawer and handed it to the robber, who then ran away.

A security guard told police that the man wore a white shirt with long blue sleeves, jeans and a blue cap. He carried a black bag. The robber spent only one minute behind the counter before making off with the money.

The guard said he pursued the robber outside. When he saw him try to flag down a passing motorcycle taxi he shouted, ''Thief, Thief!''. The motorcycle taxi driver took off without him, the guard said. But the robber then crossed the road, where he escaped on another motorcycle taxi.

Police were investigating and reviewing security camera footage.
