CHON BURI: Police from the Tourist Police Bureau and the Technology Crime Suppression Division on Saturday night seized more than 10,000 items of pirated merchandise in raids on about 40 stalls at Thep Prasit Pattaya Market, known to be one of the biggest sources of fake goods in Pattaya.

The raid, led by Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakpan, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, began at about 11pm.

The goods confiscated were copies of various brand-name products, including clothes, perfume, electrical appliances, watches and handbags.

Pol Maj Gen Surachate said the fake products were worth between three and four million baht.

He said the action was part of the ongoing cooperation between Thailand and the United States in reducing the quantity of pirated products and violations of intellectual property.
