KANCHANABURI: Security checkpoints manned by police and military personnel close to the Myanmar border of this western province have been put on the lookout for a Myanmar man suspected of murdering a construction tycoon in Suphan Buri province last week.

The Myanmar man, identified only as Soe, is suspected of murdering Nathpaponwich Wongthanajiranart, alias Sia Lek Orada, a major construction contractor in Suphan Buri.

Since the murder, officials at the Three Pagodas Pass in Sangkhla Buri have been closely monitoring people passing through the checkpoint in case the suspect tries to cross the border to return to Dawei, his hometown in Myanmar.

On Saturday, military and police officers manning five security checkpoints on Highway 323 between Kanchanaburi and Sangkhla Buri were instructed to watch out for the suspect.

They are the tambon Tha Sao checkpoint in Sai Yok district, the Thong Pha Phum intersection checkpoint, and Ban Jong Ua, Rantee river and Nam Koek checkpoints in Sangkhla Buri district.

Photos of the suspect have been distributed to all checkpoints and security units.

Also on Saturday, footage from a security camera showed a man resembling the suspect walk past a petrol station in tambon Ban Kao in Muang district. Police were investigating.
