CHIANG MAI: Five senior police officers at Chang Phueak police station have been transferred to inactive posts following a raid on a gambling den in downtown Muang district in which 93 people were caught on Friday night.
Pol Col Pichet Jeerasettasin, acting chief of Chiang Mai police, signed the order to transfer the five officers to the provincial police office’s operations centre following the raid on the gambling den, Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, deputy spokesman to the Royal Thai Police Office, said on Saturday.
The five officers were Pol Col Amornchai Panya, chief of Chang Phueak police station; Pol Lt Col Jirattipong Lertwiriyanant, deputy chief responsible for crime suppression; Pol Lt Col Chanin Kheha, deputy chief responsible for investigation; Pol Lt Col Veeraphol Dokchan, crime suppression chief; and Pol Lt Col Natthaphol Ekkachan, investigation chief.
An inquiry panel was also set up to investigate whether the five officers were negligent in their duties or not, said Pol Col Kritsana.
The abrupt transfers came after a military-led team raided a house on Soi Patan 9 in tambon San Phi Sua and found 93 people -- 50 men and 43 women -- gambling inside on Friday night, Thai media reported.
The team found three closed-circuit television cameras were installed at the premise. They seized 300 sets of gambling cards, tables, 105,160 baht in cash, a PC computer used for displaying gambling results, three slot machines and the CCTVs.
All gamblers were held in police custody for legal action.
