LAMPANG: Police seized about 10 million speed pills found inside a cargo container on the back of a truck heading to Talad Thai market in Pathum Thani on Tuesday.

The container truck was stopped at a checkpoint on the Phathon Yothin Highway in Ban Hat Poo Dai village of tambon Na Kaeo, Ko Kha district about 12.30am.

Police said the driver, Arthit Laorat, 32, of Khon Kaen province, appeared very nervous.

When told the vehicle would be searched he claimed to not have a key to unlock the container, but police found it in his pocket.

When the container was opened, police found 50 sacks each containing about 200,000 tablets of methamphetamine inside it.

Mr Arthit then confessed he was paid 50,000 baht by a hilltribe man known only as Oaf to pick up the shipment from a petrol station in Ngao district of Lampang and deliver it to Talad Thai Market in Pathum Thani province, according to police.

He was arrested and held in custody for further questioning.
