SONGKHLA: A man was arrested for possession of 50,000 methamphetamine pills in a house search in Hat Yai district on Sunday morning.

Hat Yai police searched the house on Punnakan road in Kho Hong Municipality following reports that it was being used to store drugs for distribution to dealers.

Police said they found five bundles of 50,000 meth pills inside a suitcase in one of the rooms, and arrested Chatmongkol Thinchana, 32, who admitted to having rented the house for drug storage.

Mr Chatmongkol reportedly said the seized drugs were part of a cache of 300,000 meth pills sent to the house for storage, with him as the attendant.

He said the drugs belonged to Kornthat Kingthapluang, 32, a high school friend, police said.

Pol Lt Col Thanawat Sengsui, deputy chief of Hat Yai police, said the action followed the recent seizure of 170,000 meth pills from a house in tambon Kho Hong in Hat Yai district, when a caretaker was arrested. The caretaker, Vacharapol Seenuanphud, 31, said those drugs also belonged to Mr Kornthat, a major drug dealer wanted by Songkhla police, he added.
