The Criminal Court on Thursday ordered the extradition of Canadian Matthew Alexander McGowan to the United States to face an alleged murder charge there.

Earlier, prosecutors told the court that Mr McGowan was charged with murder with a gun in Florida in September 2017.

The Criminal Court approved the extradition, citing three reasons — the alleged crime carried a jail term of at least one year under Thai law, both countries have their extradition treaty and the statute of limitation of the case has not expired.

Mr McGowan was brought to the Criminal Court on Thursday from the Bangkok Remand Prison where he had been detained since his US-requested arrest in November last year. The suspect had opposed the extradition.

The man had the right to appeal against the extradition order in 30 days.
