Banphaeo Hospital's Prommitr branch on Sukhumvit Soi 39 will be closed on Nov 1 and the hospital is now looking for a new location to provide medical services for Bangkok people.

Pornthep Pongtawikorn, director of Banphaeo Hospital, said the 11-year-old branch would be opened until Oct 31.

Banphaeo Hospital, with the main facility in tambon Banphaeo of Muang district, Samut Sakhon, is a non-profit public organisation under the Public Health Ministry. With the status, it is allowed to earn income and manage its own operations for utmost efficiency.

Dr Pornthep said the hospital rented a building of Prommitr Hospital for its branch but the landlord had recently terminated the contract.

To continue serving patients, the hospital is looking for hospitals or clinics to take its patients. The closing 40-bed branch treats about 300 patients a day.

Patients with kidney problems will be initially referred to a new kidney centre on Srinakarin Road to be opened in November. Other patients will have to be referred to other hospitals or clinics, Dr Pornthep said.

He added the hospital was urging owners of unused buildings in nearby areas, such as on Phetchaburi Road, to let the hospital rent one for the substitute branch.

He said all 148 employees working at Prommitr Branch would be transferred to the main hospital in Samut Sakhon. Those who want to work elsewhere will be compensated by the labour law.

Banphaeo Hospital is applauded for its efficient management and services. Its name has already been referred to as a model of a successful public organisation, the third type of state units set up in 1999 in addition to government agencies and state enterprises.
