Easy Pass electronic toll cards used on the city's expressways and M-Pass cards used on motorways heading East cn be used interchangeably on both networks from midnight of Oct 31.
This was announced by Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith after the signing of a memorandum of agreement, to enable the use of Easy Pass and M-Pass cards on both networks, by the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) and the Highways Department on using the electronic toll collection system (ETCS).
The Easy Pass card, sold by the Exat, enables motorists to automatically pay tolls on the Bangkok expressway system. It has been in use since February 2010 for seven expressways: Chalerm Mahanakhon, Chalongrat (Ram Intra-At Narong), Srirat, Kanchanaphisek (Bang Phli - Suksawat), Burapha Whithi (Bang Na - Chon Buri), Udon Rathaya (Bang Pa-in - Pak Kret), and Srirat-outer ring road.
The Highways Department introduced the ETCS using M-Pass cards on the Bang Pa-in-Bang Na motorway in 2013 and on the Bangkok-Chon Buri motorway in 2014.
Under the agreement, the toll collection systems of the two agencies have been linked, enabling holders of Easy Pass and M-Pass cards to use either card on both networks, starting Nov 1.
Both cards require pre-payment, with the toll being deducted automatically as the vehicle passes through the tollgate.
