PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: Well-known cinematographer Anuparb Buachan was killed and three family members seriously hurt when his pickup truck veered off a bridge and overturned in Thap Sakae district on Saturday.

The accident occurred at kilometre maker 329 on Phetkasem Road in tambon Huay Yang on Saturday morning, said Pol Capt Pratheep Kanchart, a duty officer at the Huay Yang police station.

Police and rescue workers found a Navara pickup truck with a Bangkok licence plate overturned beneath the bridge road. Anuparb, who was driving the vehicle, was killed instantly and three people were injured and trapped in the wreckage.

The injured, identified as Anuparb’s wife Sakuna Khongprom, 55, son Warat Buachan, 27, and granddaughter Panthida Buachan, 2, were retrieved from the wreckage and rushed to hospital in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thai media reported.

A police investigation found that Anuparb was driving from Bangkok to Bang Saphan Noi district in Prachuap Khiri Khan when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road into the area below the bridge.

The veteran cinematographer, known as "Uncle Piak" by colleagues and peers, worked on films directed by national artist MC Chatrichalerm Yukol. He was also known for his work on the 2004 true-crime drama Kuenbab Prom Pri Ram, directed by Manop Udomdej. He had won several awards from his work.
