CHON BURI - A Russian woman drowned in the swimming pool of a condominium in Pattaya early on Sunday, police said.

Pol Capt Manod Thipvej, deputy investigation chief of Pattaya police, said the drowning occurred at about 3am at the swimming pool of the condominium in Soi Na Klua 12 in tambon Na Klua of Bang Lamung district.

Police and rescuers, on arriving at the scene, found the Russian woman, identified later as Zimina Svetlana, 51, lying by the side of the pool.

He went to the swimming pool and found the woman had been brought out of the water. She was still alive at the time. He immediately informed the police and Pattaya City rescuers, but the woman died before their arrival.

The woman's Russian husband, a retired policeman, also came to the swimming pool to see his wife on learning of the incident.
