A heavy downpour in Bangkok on Saturday afternoon has brought hail and flooding to the popular Chatuchak weekend market.

Several Twitter users tweeted clips of the hail in Chatuchak market as it is quite rare to see hail in Bangkok. They also tweeted images of floods in the market.

Heavy rain, meanwhile, caused a tree to fell down on Suthisarn Winitchai Road in the Saphan Khwai area, blocking three traffic lanes so that large vehicles could not pass.

The Bangkok Flood Warning Centre has predicted heavy rain for inner Bangkok and districts including Don Mueang, Sai Mai, Lak Si, Bang Khen, Klong Sam Wa, Min Buri, Nong Chok and Lat Krabang.

Din Daeng recorded 31 millimetres of rain and Klong Sam Wa 61.5mm  on Saturday. The centre reported at least six spots where floodwater had not yet been drained.

The centre said workers has prepared for continuing rain in Bangkok by reducing water levels in main canals including Lat Phrao, Prem Prachakorn and Saen Saep so that they would be able to absorb more rainwater.
