Banks to close on Oct 26, drones banned

A number of agencies and companies made announcements regarding the royal cremation ceremony on Monday.

  • The Bank of Thailand announced Oct 26 as an additional holiday for financial institutions. At least eight banks --TMB Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, Kasikornbank, Krungthai Bank, Bank of Ayudhya, Tisco Bank, Land and Houses Bank and UOB -- said they would close all branches on that day including those at shopping malls so their employees can attend the ceremony. Internet banking and ATMs function normally.

  • All types of drones are not allowed to be controlled or launched within the 19km radius from Sanam Laung during the royal cremation ceremony during Oct 26-29 for safety reasons, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) announced. Violation will result in a possible destruction of the devices and a jail term not more than one year and/or a fine not more than 40,000 baht. For more information, call CAAT at 02-568-8800.

  • Bangchak Petroleum Plc will cut the prices of all types of fuels by 1.50 baht a litre at all of its branches on Oct 26 to help lower travel costs for people.
