As tropical storm "Khanun" approaches Hainan, China, from the South China Sea, more rain is likely in the eastern part of the Northeast of Thailand on Monday, according to the 4am announcement of the Thai Meteorological Department on Sunday.
As of 4am on Sunday, tropical storm Khanun was moving over the upper South China Sea, east of Hainan, China, with sustained winds of 110 kilometres per hour. The storm was moving in a northwesterly direction at a speed of 20km per hour.
During Oct 16-17, the storm is forecast to move over Hainan and Tonkin Gulf before making landfall over Hanoi, Vietnam. The storm is then expected to be downgraded to a low pressure over upper Laos.
Residents of the eastern part of the Northeast were warned to brace for more rain on Monday.
The monsoon trough is lying across the lower Central region, the upper South and the East, with the southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea and the South. Outbreaks of rain with isolated downpours will continue all over the country, the announcement said.
