PRACHIN BURI: The body of a dead baby was found dumped at the back of a shop about to open for its first day of business in Kabin Buri district on Thursday morning.

It is believed to have been thrown from an adjoining room rented to students.

The baby's body, with its umbilical cord still attached, was found about 7.30am on Thursday.

It was on the ground in a fenced yard behind a rented single-storey shop, a satellite dish installation store about to open for its first day of business on Road 304 (Kabin Buri-Si Maha Phot).

The baby had a broken skull. A doctor from Kabin Buri Hospital estimated the child had been dead about 12 hours.

Pol Col Songsak Chairaksa, chief of the Kabin Buri police, said the baby's body was found by the shopkeeper's 8-year-old daughter. It had been thrown over a 1.5-metre high fence separating the premises from another rented room behind it. They are part of cluster of one-storey rented rooms in the area.

"The place at the back is where 3-4 young couples, students, usually gather. The tenants are an 18-year-old male student and a 16-year-old female student," the officer said.

According to him, the female student claimed she was six months pregnant and had miscarried while urinating. She was shocked and simply threw the dead baby over the fence at the back.

Pol Col Songsak said he would await the result of the autopsy before deciding what action to take.
