Students and taxi motorcycle drivers involved in a violent road rage brawl were summonsed to appear at a police station on Sunday.

Acting deputy national police chief Wirachai Songmetta said on Sunday that police at the Sam Sen station had called a meeting of students - and their parents - and taxi motorcyclists involved in a street brawl on Friday to settle their differences.

An online video clip showed motorcycle taxi drivers attacking a student in Sam Sen area, he said, after a student riding a motorcycle cut in front of a motorbike taxi.

When the taxi rider shouted at the student, a fight broke out. Four of the student's friends jumped in, overpowering the motorcycle taxi driver, who suffered a broken nose.

Seconds later, other motorcycle taxi drivers rushed into the fight from their stand about 30 metres away. The student's four friends then ran away, and he was knocked to the ground and beaten.

Pol Gen Wirachai said that although the motorbike taxi driver suffered the most serious injuries, he was willing to forgive the students for the sake of their future. The students apologised for their actions, and both sides promised to end the conflict.

However, he said, police were still obliged to charge both parties with physical assault.
