Seats are being removed from the middle section of carriages on the MRT's underground Blue Line trains to provide space for more passengers, the operator, Bangkok Expressway and Metro Plc, announced on Monday.

The company tweeted the announcement, saying it is an experiment that began with the first train in service on Monday morning. It will be extended to other carriages and will continue until the end of the year.

It asked passengers to walk down the carriage and use the new standing space, to make way for new passengers.
