TRANG: Two months after a huge rockslide blocked the primary road to their village, leaving only narrow gap, the people of Ban Nala are still waiting for it to be cleared.

They said there have already been accidents at that spot, and they fear there will be more.

Residents of Nala village in tambon Palian took local reporters to see the huge rockfall on the Pak Khraeng-Jaopa-Nala road, the main access route for their community, on Thursday.

There was only a  single, narrow lane, about two metres wide, left open for vehicles to use.

The rocks had been falling down the mountain since mid-September, residents said. Local authorities had made no effort to clear the road, despite their requests.

Several vehicles, including a school bus, had veered off the road and been stuck in the drainage ditch while trying to negotiate the passage.

Somchok Noowong, head of village Moo 14 , said the Trang provincial administration organisation and the Palian tambon administration organisation had sent officials to look at the rockfall, but that was two months ago and the cliff was continuing to crumble.

There had been several days since then when it had not been raining, but no one came to clear away the rockslide, he said.

People from the village had to use this road every day to get to the school and other essential places. The alternative route was almost 20 kilometres longer.

He made an appeal to local authorities to finally get moving and clear the road.
