Warning of more rain, flooding in the South

Continuous rain, with the danger of landslides and even more flooding, is forecast for 10 southern provinces, continuing until next Monday, with large areas of nine of them already awash on Thursday.

Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said the warning is for Chumphon, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Phatthalung, Satun, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Trang and Yala provinces.

Monsoon rains would continue to pummel the South - especially in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla and Surat Thani provinces - until Friday. From Saturday to Monday the warning is for provinces from Nakhon Sri Thammarat southwards, he said.

On Thursday there was already majopr flooding in nine of the provinces. The exception was Satun, Mr Chayapol said.
