NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: A sub-district medical practitioner was gunned down before dawn on Tuesday while working with his wife at a roadside pork stall in Chawang district.

Police said were called to the scene of the shooting on Jandee-Phibun road in tambon La-ai about 5am, said Pol Capt Wutthipong Wattanapreechapong, deputy investigation chief at Chawang police station.

Pusana Samosorn, 53, was shot in the back. He was rushed to Somdej Phra Yupparat Chawang Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A 9mm pistol was found in his parked pickup truck.

His wife, Supaporn Ratcharak, 43, was in a state of shock as she told police she was setting out her pork for sale when she heard a gunshot and saw her husband fall to the ground near the stall.

She was busy  at the time and did not see how many attackers were involved, what kind of vehicle they used or which direction they fled as it was still dark.

The woman said her husband worked as a medical practitioner, or phaed tambon, for tambon Saira in Chawang district.

Police began a search for the gunman but said there were no clues found at the scene. They suspected the victim might have been aware someone wanted to take his life as he had kept a gun in his vehicle.

Investigators found that Pusana had two wives, and Ms Supaporn was the first. The investigation was continuing.
