PHITSANULOK: The Nakhon Chum valley in Nakhon Thai district of this lower northern province has become a new tourist attraction offering a stunning view of fog covering the valley.

A large number of people this weekend went up for a homestay at tambon Nakhon Chum to see a sunrise and the fog from Khao Pok Lon mountaintop.

They were not disappointed. The temperature on Sunday morning was 14 degree Celcius, warmer than last week when the mercury dropped to 7-8C.

Apart from Khao Pok Lon mountain, the Nakhon Chum tambon administration organisation (TAO) has improved a spot by the Nakhon Thai-Nakhon Chum road, about 3 kilometres from the tambon town, for motorists and tourists to view and take pictures of the sea of fog in the morning.

From this point, they can see the red-hued Khao Pok Lon mountain in the backdrop.

The best time for viewing the fog is between 6-7am, before it gradually disappears at about 8am.

Tambon Nakhon Chum is now a favourite point for tourists to visit during the cold season. The TAO has arranged 12 houses for homestay at the rate of 450 baht per night with local-style breakfast and dinner.
