CHON BURI: A Chinese tourist is full of praise for a female taxi driver who returned a wallet and two passports he left in the taxi late on Saturday night.

Boonthanom Phangnil, 42, told Pattaya police that on Saturday she took a foreign tourist from the Sugar Hut Hotel to the Central Festival on Pattaya Beach.

When Ms Boonthanom later stopped to clean up the vehicle, she found a wallet and two passports on the back seat. She drove back to the hotel, but the owner had not yet returned - so at 1am on Sunday morning, she handed them over to the police.

The police examined the wallet and found some Chinese and Thai banknotes - 741 Chinese yuan and 3,207 Thai baht - inside. The passports identified the tourist as Yang Rongzong, 24, a Chinese national.

After being contacted by the police, the Chinese tourist picked up his belongings from the police station.

He was full of praise for Ms Boonthanom and gave her 5,000 baht as a token of his appreciation.
