Poll: Children want more family time

Many children want their parents to set aside more family time and take trips together, according to an opinion survey released on Children’s Day by Bangkok Poll.

Bangkok University pollsters questioned 1,185 youngsters, aged 6-14, in Bangkok and surrounding provinces between Jan 9 and 11, asking them about 10 things they wanted most from adults this year.

The largest number of respondents, 63.5%, wanted their parents to spend more family time with them and to take them out more often. Performing well in school was the choice of 51.3% of respondents, while 49.2% wanted to have new smartphones and computer tablets.

Bangkok Poll said 44.5% of the youngsters surveyed appealed for senior figures in society to stop quarrelling, and 35.9% wanted to have less homework and less classroom time. About 35.1% wanted all children to have equal opportunities, and 34.9% said they wanted to see adults joining together to work for the country.

Staying healthy was mentioned by 34.7%, while 33.1% said they wanted to hear fewer complaints from parents and 31.9% wanted adults to stop beating children.
