The 24-year-old woman whose ID card was used to open bank accounts to operate a call centre scam after she lost her purse says she is ready to take a lie-detector test to prove her innocence.
Police are reportedly set to conduct a polygraph test on Nicha Kiartthanapaiboon after a probe found she had already obtained several new ID cards.
Pol Gen Thanitsak Thirasawat, a senior adviser to the Royal Thai Police, said in an interview with a Channel 3 news programme that the public should not jump to the conclusion that Ms Nicha is a victim as several suspicious issues had been uncovered, including several missing ID cards and as much as six million baht circulating in her bank accounts.
Ms Nicha admitted Saturday that she had lost three ID cards, in 2014, September and October last year when her card went missing after her purse was stolen.
She said she was questioned by police for five hours while investigators also collected examples of her signature to compare with those used by the suspect.
Pol Maj Gen Parinya Wisitthathakul, chief of the Tak Provincial Police, said Saturday that his team expects to complete their investigation into Ms Nicha by early February.
Earlier it had been reported that Ms Nicha had sought help from the Crime Suppression Division to track down people who had used her ID card to open nine accounts with seven banks, which were used to handle the proceeds of a call centre scam.
Accompanied by her relatives and lawyer, Ms Nicha on Friday reported to the Tak Provincial Court to hear the charges against her.
She later appeared at the Provincial Police to give testimonies to a probe panel, chaired by Pol Maj Gen Parinya, which oversaw her original complaint.
