BURI RAM: A man was killed after falling from a motorcycle on which he was riding pillion and run over by a 10-wheel truck in Muang district on Sunday morning, police said.

Pol Capt Aswin Kanrian, a Muang police investigator, identified the man as Ruan Ocharam, 55. The accident happened near Ban Sai Yong bridge in tambon Krasang on Buri Ram-Lam Plai Mat road.

Suwan Panyarom, 53, the motorcycle driver, said he and Ruan, the pillion rider, were returning to Ban Don Yai in tambon Ban Bua from a funeral at Ban Sai Yong when Ruan fell from the motorcycle for an unknown reason.

Mr Suwan said he stopped the motorcycle, which had lurched across the median strip to the opposite lane, and looked back to see his friend run over by a 10-wheel truck following behind them. Ruan was dragged about 100 metres by the truck, Mr Suwan said.

Mr Suwan said he chased after the truck on the motorcycle, trying to stop it, but the truck sped away.

Police were checking the footage of security cameras in the area to identify the truck.
