Several hours of heavy rain caused flooding and mass traffic congestion in eastern Bangkok and next-door Samut Prakan province Wednesday morning.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's drainage and sewerage department reported the heaviest rain in Bang Na district with rain measuring 120 millimetres and still coming down.

Members of the JS100 traffic radio network reported deep flooding on Si Nakarin Road between Sri Thepha and La Salle (Sukhimvit 105) intersections.

Flooding was also reported on Bearing Road, La Salle Road and frontage lanes of Theparat Road (Bang Na-Trat) from Central department store to Wat Sri Iam.

All badly flooded areas were reportedly in Bang Na district and vicinity, the BMA said.

The Meteorological Department predicted heavy rain over parts of Bangkok on Wednesday due to a high pressure system from China.
