Most areas of the northeastern region will face strong winds and possibly heavy rain on Wednesday night and into Thursday, the Meteorological Department warned in its latest forecast.

Most likely to be affected are Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lum Phu, Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima, which should brace for gusty winds overnight and on Thursday.

The turbulent weather front should move into northern and central provinces, including Bangkok, on Thursday. People were advised to avoid staying in open areas, standing under big trees and near big billboards for their own safety, the weather office said.

Kalasin governor Kraisorn Kongchalard said all districts in the province had been put on alert to deal with strong winds, which could also damage farm crops.

Five houses suffered wind damage at Ban Wang Muang in Sung Neon district in Nakhon Ratchasima on Tuesday night.

Villager Naeb Chidnok said on Wednesday the gusting winds came after a downpour at the village. She and her husband fled the house for fear if could collapse and took shelter in a pigpen for about an hour.
