SONGKHLA: A man has been charged after dropping ashes onto the bonnet of a pickup truck blocking his house in Hat Yai district.

Deputy Hat Yai police chief Pol Capt Pichet Kuarno said on Saturday Prasit Heng had been charged for damaging the vehicle of Phipob Chiawongtrakul.

Mr Phipob, 60, filed a complaint with police after finding his truck littered with ashes. Footage from a CCTV showed Mr Prasit, his 60-year-old neighbour, dropping them onto his vehicle at 2am on Saturday.

Mr Prasit, 64, on Sunday told reporters he had become frustrated because his neighbour kept blocking his driveway day and night.

He said the truck prevented him taking his 90-year-old mother to hospital, causing them to miss appointments with a doctor there. When he asked Mr Phipob to move his vehicle, he was told that it was a public road, he added.

"I couldn't stand it anymore. I dumped the ashes to send him a message: Don't park your vehicle in front of my house," Mr Prasit said.

"I don't have any problems with other neighbours in the soi. I had no intention to damage his property," he added.

Pol Capt Pichet said police will try to talk the two into ending the feud.

The case of 'parking rage' followed a much higher profile incident in Bangkok on Feb 18, when two women used an axe and a metal pole to attack a pickup truck blocking their driveway in Prawet district.
