Couple demand truth over daughter's death

PHITSANULOK: The parents of a 16-year-old girl killed by her 14-year-old boyfriend on Saturday in what the boyfriend's family insisted was an accidental shooting rejected that explanation and insisted police establish the real cause of her death.

Speaking while waiting to reclaim the body of the dead girl from the forensic unit at a hospital in Muang district Sunday, the girl's father, Atthaphan Kaeophaithun, 65, said two blue marks on the neck of the girl's body fuelled his suspicion that the death of his daughter was not caused by an accidental gunshot.

Mr Atthaphan said he was told by the boyfriend's father that the shooting occurred while the boyfriend was toying with the gun belonging to his father.

Another suspicious point, Mr Atthaphan said, was that since his daughter was allegedly shot dead inside the house of the boyfriend's family, why was her body found outside of the house near the back door?

Pol Capt Prathip In-kaeo, a deputy police inspector at Bang Yaeng police station who is in charge of the case, said police suspected the couple fought before the boy accidentally shot the girl.

The investigation to find out the cause of death was under way and the father of the boyfriend promised he would bring the boy to meet investigators for questioning, Pol Capt Prathip said.

On Saturday, the boy told relatives he had accidentally shot dead his girlfriend.
