Those who have time can come or wait for news."

A wheelchair-bound rights activist punched and broke the glass door of an elevator at the elevated BTS train station at Asoke intersection on Sunday night after discovering it was locked.

Local media reported that Manit Intapim, 50, was taken to Lumpini police station after shattering the glass pane on the entry door to the elevator for the elderly and people with disabilities about 8.20pm.

The man also posted photos of the broken pane and his slightly injured fist on the Facebook account "Accessibility is Freedom".

The pictures were accompanied by the message that he would return to the same place at 4pm on Monday and be available for media interviews.

"I hit the lift. Those who have time can come or wait for news," the message said.

"Our fellow people with disabilities, or anyone else, who believe in your sense of humanity, your potential to contribute to social interest, I would like to invite you to come."

Mr Manit is an activist for the rights of people with disabilities.

According to the Lumpini police, when Mr Manit arrived at the skytrain station BTS staff asked him to register for elevator use, but he refused to do so.

Later he waited for the elevator for about five minutes, but no one came to open the elevator door for him. Then he repeatedly punched the glass elevator door, police said.

Manit Intapim showshis damaged hand.
